The game of roulette is the oldest casino game still in existence, it has been around in one form or another for close to 300 years.
The popularity of Roulette far greater in Europe than it is in North America. In Europe, the popularity is greater is likely due to the much lower casino edge (which four times less than the casino edge in U.S. casinos) as well as cultural differences.
The Basics of Roulette
Roulette is played by rolling a small ball in one direction inside a wheel, which spins in the opposite direction. When the ball comes to rest on the wheel, whatever slot the ball lands in is the winning number. You win or lose depending on the wager you have placed prior to the spin.
The main difference between Roulette in North America and the Roulette played in Europe has to do with the number of slots. In North America, there is a "double zero" and a "zero" slot. In Europe, there is only a "zero" slot. Needless to say, your odds of winning are greater when playing the European version. Other than that, the traditional Roulette wheel has 36 slots on it, one half are colored red and the other half are colored black. The red and black alternate around the wheel.
